STEPHEN SCOTT

Following Brown studies, declined PhD fellowship at Cornell, accepted teaching position 1969 at Colorado College, a selective liberal arts school in Colorado Springs. Established CC’s first electronic music studio and created new courses in world music, experimental music and jazz. Established first new-music ensemble 1972 and founded The Bowed Piano Ensemble 1977. From the beginning this singular group of undergraduates toured in the US and Canada; in the 80’s, as the players became more proficient and my compositions for the Ensemble grew more complex and sophisticated, we recorded for New Albion and began touring abroad. Over the decades there were nine tours in Central and Eastern Europe, three in Australia/New Zealand. The ensemble was one of the very few undergraduate student groups invited to international professional music festivals. Among these were MaerzMuzik (Berlin), ppIANISSIMO (Sophia), Nuud (Tallin), Visual Music (Canary Islands), Spoleto USA (Charleston) and Canberra International Music Festival. The Ensemble has made six recordings of my music for New Albion, Albany and Navona/Naxos, all still in print and available on Amazon.

Three Representative Works: As my music is highly visual as well as aural, performances of the following three works are on video: Rainbows, Parts One and Two; Entrada and Azul/En Su Isla
