I enjoy writing music that I believe is accessible to musicians and audiences of varied preferences -- educational, avant garde, church music, instrumental, vocal -- solo music, ensemble, orchestral, choral, using a wide variety of styles of music. I'm fond of experimental scales, modes and pentatonic; ethnic music; counterpoint; and the continued quest for melody in any style of my compositions. Many commissions have resulted from Chapters of MTNA, two art galleries, church music, and special music by select musicians for concerts. As the 2014 WSMTA Commissioned Composer of the Year, Penta-Moods, a piano duet, resulted from an in-depth study of pentatonic scales, ranging from ancient to present day jazz influence. Walking in Man Gong, was the response for an intermediate piano solo as an encore for the WSMTA award, and was presented to the Washington student composer winners as their presentation concert.

Oregon Connection: As a member of Cascadia Composers, the Portland chapter of NACUSA, my compositions have been performed in several concerts sponsored by Cascadia, including being chosen for OMTA/Cascadia collaboration of "In Good Hands" concerts for student pianists. I have also attended a Music Technology workshop at PSU. Portland offers music in virtually unlimited expression, and I have been fortunate to have worked with some very fine musicians of all ages through my compositions. As an adjudicator: OMTA Student Composition Festival; MTNA NW Division for 5 state area.
